TAIPING: Two people were killed and two others injured in a collision between an Audi A5 and a Proton Saga at Jalan Kamunting Lama, in front of Kem Sangro here today.
The deceased were identified as S. Yugandren, 27, and M. Kalidadan, 25, both from Taiping.
It is understood that the Audi A5, driven by a 47-year-old man from Ipoh, was heading to Taiping from Batu Kurau; while the Proton Saga, with a driver and two passengers, was coming from the opposite direction in the 5.27am incident.
“The Proton Saga is believed to have (suddenly) entered the opposite lane, causing the Audi driver to hit (the breaks) as he attempted to avoid a collision (to no avail),” said District police chief Assistant Commissioner Harrith Kam Abdullah.
The impact caused two passengers in the Proton Saga to be thrown out of the vehicle, killing them both at the scene; while the driver, S. Sivanesan, 26, suffered head injuries. The Audi A5 driver sustained injuries on his right hand.
“The remains of the victims were sent to the Taiping Hospital for post-mortem, while the other victims are receiving treatment there.
“The case is being investigated under Section 41(1)(A) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” Harrith added.
