Roadside ruse: Motorcyclist fakes collision, snatches gold chain

SHAH ALAM: Police have advised the public to exercise caution when exiting their vehicles after a man's gold chain was partially snatched in Setia Alam.

The incident, captured on video and widely shared online, occurred when a motorcyclist tricked the victim into getting out of his car by claiming a minor collision.

As the 29-year-old car salesman exited his Mercedes-Benz to inspect for damage, the motorcyclist grabbed his gold chain and sped off.

The victim however managed to hold on to part of the chain, leaving the suspect with only half of it.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim confirmed that a report was lodged on Sept 28.

The suspect, believed to be a local, was riding a Yamaha motorcycle during the incident.

"The victim's loss is estimated at RM1,500, and fortunately, no injuries were reported," he said in a statement.

The case is being investigated under Section 392 of the Penal Code for robbery.

Police are working to identify and locate the suspect.

"We urge the public to stay alert and not fall for such scams on the road," Iqbal added.

Anyone with information on the case can contact Sergeant Shatish at 010-5643 645 or visit the nearest police station.
