PUTRAJAYA: The power outage which affected 40 per cent of retailers in Putrajaya IOI City Mall on Monday was due to a faulty equipment.
The mall’s head of advertising and promotions Joyce Chew said investigations conducted by the mall’s chief engineer found the power disruption was due to an equipment fault.
Chew, however, said the problem was immediately rectified on site.
“The power supply gradually resumed from 2pm onwards, after two hours.
“By 4.30pm everything was back to normal and power was restored at all 200 retail outlets,” she said in a statement today.
She said the disruption only affected the south part of the mall.
“There were no untoward incidents other than disruption to the affected tenants’ trading and the inconvenience to our shoppers who were in the mall during that time,” she said.
Chew said the faulty equipment was replaced with a new one this morning.
In a statement today, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) said the power disruption to parts of IOI City Mall Putrajaya, was caused by a flashover of the mall’s own circuit breaker and not a blown fuse in TNB’s substation supplying power to the building.
“The protection system at TNB’s substation has instead successfully avoided potential fire in IOI mall’s panel flashover by tripping the incoming power supply to the mall.
“The mall obtains electricity supply from two incoming feeder (33kV) at TNB's substation nearby.
“Although one feeder is affected by the panel flashover, supply has been normalised by IOI Mall’s move to switching to the other feeder,” the statement read.
