Wife saves life: Temerloh man who got hand stuck in toilet has wife to thank for rescue

TEMERLOH: Although his widely-reported ordeal was embarrassing, a man whose hand got stuck in a squat toilet while attempting to recover a cigarette lighter on Wednesday was fortunate that his wife returned home in time to call for help.

Roslinda Yahya had gone with her parents and three children to a Hari Raya open house event while her husband, Adly Azamin Mohd Amin, 42, remained at their home in Taman Seri Kemuning near here.

The 33-year-old said instead of returning to her parents’ place at Kampung Paya Keladan near here, she chose instead to return home so that she could cook for the family.

"When I reached home at about 2.30pm and called out for my husband to open the door, I heard him calling my name from inside the house.

"Since I did not have the house keys, my father had to break open the house door. We were shocked to see my husband lying on the bathroom floor with his right arm stuck inside the squat toilet," she said when met yesterday.

Roslinda said she immediately alerted the fire and rescue department before notifying a nearby clinic for medical assistance.

"While firemen used a hammer and metal cutter to free the hand from the toilet bowl, a medical assistant provided painkillers to reduce the pain on my husband’s right arm.

"It was almost 7pm when they managed to release his hand and took him to the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital here. He was stable, and only his right arm was swollen, with bruises," she said.

Roslinda said it was normal for her husband to smoke in the toilet, but she was unsure why her husband had resorted to such action to recover the cigarette lighter.

The incident on the second floor of the Taman Seri Kemuning flats here saw a five-man firefighter team spend almost four hours to break the toilet and surrounding concrete to extract the Adly’s arm.
