KUALA LUMPUR: An Egyptian man was found 16 hours after he got lost while hiking at Bukit Kutu, Kuala Kubu Baru yesterday.
Osama Ashraf Wagdy Hassam Mahmaud Elsayigh, 20, had managed to hitch a ride from a motorist, Mohammad Zaidi Zulkifli. Zaidi had dropped him at the foot of the hill at about 12.20am.
When Zaidi received a text message from Osama at 8.07pm, stating “I'm lost at the hill’, he quickly alerted the Fire and Rescue Department.
Hulu Selangor district police chief R. Supramaniam said the victim also alerted his friends at Kuala Lumpur, urging them to seek help.
“A search and rescue (SAR) team comprising of the police, firemen, and the Civil Defence Force personnel were deployed at 9.30pm yesterday but the effort was called off at 3am.
“This morning, the SAR team received information that the victim was near Buloh Telur (an Orang Asli village) located more than 10km from Bukit Kutu,” he said.
The SAR team was deployed to Buloh Telur village at 10am and the victim was found about three hours after the operation resumed.
“The victim did not sustain any injuries but he was weak. The SAR team had brought the victim down to the temporary operation centre,” he said.
