SANDAKAN: A female tourist from France was rescued after getting lost while hiking in the Sandakan Rainforest, Batu 5, today.
Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station chief Severinus @ Mohd Nidzam Sainkui said the fire department received a distress call at 6.40pm and launched a search and rescue operation.
The 27-year-old victim had strayed off the hiking path and became lost as darkness made it difficult to find her way out.
"The victim was successfully located by the fire brigade in a nearby forested area and was found to be in a safe condition," he said in a statement today.
He added that the victim was then escorted out of the area to safety.
