KL lashed by strong winds; roofs blown off, trees felled

KUALA LUMPUR: Strong winds and heavy rain lashed the Klang Valley overnight, uprooting trees and blowing off roofs in several parts of the capital.

In Wangsa Maju, the roof of a building was blown off and fell onto several parked cars at Alpha Villa at 10.04pm.

"(After receiving a distress call) we immediately deployed seven firemen and a fire engine from the Wangsa Maju Fire and Rescue Station, which arrived at the scene 10 minutes later," Kuala Lumpur Fire Operation Centre Head Zamani Ismail said.

He said the roof had fallen on seven cars and two motorcycles that were parked at the site.

"The situation was under control (and) no casualty was reported,” he said.

Meanwhile, a tree fell onto a house at Kampung Segambut Luar near here.

Zamani said the department received a call about the incident at 10.07pm and deployed five personnel and a fire engine from the Sentul Fire and Rescue Station to the scene. "The rescue team managed to evacuate the occupants from the house to a safe place,” he added. -- BERNAMA
