CJ heads Penang honours list

CHIEF JUSTICE Tan Sri Md Raus Sharif heads the list of 1,481 people conferred various state awards by Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas in conjunction with his 79th birthday today.

Raus will be conferred the Darjah Utama Pangkuan Negeri, which carries the title “Datuk Seri Utama”.

The Darjah Panglima Pangkuan Negeri award, which carries the title of “Datuk Seri”, will be conferred on two people. They are social activist Datuk Seri Choot Ewe Seng and army chief General Datuk Seri Zulkiple Kassim.

The Darjah Gemilang Pangkuan Negeri award, which carries the title “Datuk Seri”, will be conferred on national laureate Abdul Samad Mohamed Said, Tah Wah Group executive director Datuk Hong Yeam Wah, Lembaga Tabung Haji group managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Johan Abdullah, Kobay Technology Bhd chief executive officer and managing director Datuk Koay Hean Eng and former Penang Water Supply Department director Datuk Dr Lee Loke @ Lee Yow Ching.

Also getting the award are Diamex Holdings Sdn Bhd chairman and executive director Datuk Markend Dalpatram Joshi, former state Financial Officer Datuk Mokhtar Mohd Jait, Immigration Department director-general Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali, Thye Huat Chan Sdn Bhd managing director Datuk Ng Tee Soo, Foreign Ministry secretary-general Datuk Ramlan Ibrahim, Fabtronic Sdn Bhd chairman Datuk Siti Balkish Shariff, Customs Department director-general Datuk T. Subromaniam, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Poland in George Town Datuk M. Suppiah and SJ & Associates managing director Datuk Syed Jaafar Syed Ali.

The Darjah Yang Mulia Pangkuan Negeri, which carries the title “Datuk” will be conferred on Penang Religious Affairs and Domestic Trade Committee chairman Datuk Abdul Malik Abul Kassim, UDA Holdings Bhd group managing director Datuk Ahmad Abu Bakar, Malaysian ambassador to the Netherlands Datuk Ahmad Nazri Yusof, Environment and Natural Resources Ministry deputy secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Azimuddin Bahari and Persatuan Titian Kasih Pulau Pinang adviser Datuk Bazir Ahmad Nazir Ahmad.

Also being conferred the award are former Assemblymen’s Council supreme council member Datuk Daud Taha, IRM Industries Sdn Bhd founder Datuk Goh Eng Hoe, Malaysian ambassador to Belgium Datuk Hasnudin Hamzah, former Jambatan Kedua Sdn Bhd managing director Datuk Ismail Mohamed Taib, Health Ministry head of Anaesthesia Services Datuk Dr Jahizah Hassan, Water Supply Corporation Bhd non-executive director Datuk S.R. Kuvenaraju Pachappen and Syarikat Asiawang Sdn Bhd managing director Datuk Michael Tiah Thee Seng.

Also receiving the award are army Second Division commander Major-General Datuk Mohd Ramli Jaafar, former senator Datuk Mustafa Kamal Mohd Yusoff, Syarikat Gems Restaurant (Pg) Sdn Bhd director Datuk Dr K. Palaniappan, Phison Electronics president and co-founder Pua Khein-Seng and federal Commercial Crime Investigation Department deputy director Datuk A. Thaiveegan.

A total of 89 people will receive the Darjah Setia Pangkuan Negeri (DSPN) which also carries the title “Datuk”. Among them are Malaysian Bar Council vice-president Abdul Fareed Abdul Gafoor, Penang Medical College Postgraduate and International Affairs deputy dean Professor Dr Abdul Rashid Khan Md Jagar Din, Ihsan Golf Challenge Trophy committee member Abd Razak Othman and founder of Persatuan Penduduk Taman Sri Nibong and Malaysia Medical Association member Dr Adnan Ramli.

Also getting the award are Penang High Court Judicial Commissioner Ahmad Shahrir Mohd Salleh, Penang State Legal Adviser Datuk Anas Ahmad Zakie, Penang Malay Association vice-president Azizah Mohd Daud, Penang High Court Judicial Commissioner Azmi Abdullah, UEM Edgenta Bhd managing director and chief executive officer Azmir Merican Azmi Merican and Penang Hospital Consultant Specialist O&G Gynecological Oncology consultant specialist Dr Azmy Yusoff.

Also getting the award are Hong Leong International (Hong Kong) managing director Gan Khai Choon @ Gan Mong Noy, Penang Hospital Haematology senior consultant Dr Goh Ai Sim, Penang Teowchew Association executive council member Goh Boon Poh, Heng Huat Resources Group Sdn Bhd managing director H’ng Choon Seng, Penang Sessions Court judge Ibrahim Osman, former Housing and Local Government Ministry enforcement division secretary Idris Mamat and Butterworth Sessions Court judge Julie Jack.

Among the 88 people receiving Darjah Johan Negeri awards are Yusof Taiyoob Sdn Bhd director Abdul Rahim Taiyoob.

A total of 46 people will receive the Bintang Cemerlang Negeri award, 170 people the Pingat Kelakuan Terpuji award, 483 people the Pingat Jasa Kebaktian award, 508 people the Pingat Jasa Masyarakat award and 63 people the Pingat Bakti Setia award.
