KOTA KINABALU: Ten fire stations are expected to be built in Sabah within the next five years, said Fire and Rescue Department director-general Datuk Wan Mohd Nor Ibrahim.
“At the moment there are 21 fire stations in Sabah, plus four more under construction – in Beluran, Kimanis, Sook and Pitas – which are expected to be operational by this year or next.
“If everything goes as planned, we will have 10 more new fire stations in Sabah by 2021,” he said.
The Beluran fire station is about 95 per cent complete and Kimanis is 93 per cent complete, while the other two stations have just started construction.
Wan Mohd Nor said this after presenting awards and certificates to twelve Fire and Rescue Department officers and personnel, as well as twelve Department officers who will retire from the Sabah headquarters.
Meanwhile the department’s Sabah director Nordin Pauzi said they expect calls to come in within the next several weeks as the drought season could bring about bush fires incidents.
“I therefore remind the public from refraining from open burning and to inform the Fire and Rescue Department of any bush fire so action can be taken to control the situation,” he said.
