Urgent need for fire, police stations in Puncak Alam not new, says assemblyman

KUALA LUMPUR: The long-standing issues in Puncak Alam, including the lack of police and fire stations, as well as public health clinics, have been repeatedly raised over the past few years.

These concerns have persisted despite the growing population in the area, which has highlighted the urgent need for these basic services.

Jeram assemblyman Datuk Harrison Hassan said the issue had been ongoing even before he took office as the assemblyman.

"Since I became the assemblyman, I have raised the matter during the state assembly sittings.

"The rationale for addressing these concerns is clear, especially with the growing population in Puncak Alam," he said when contacted.

Harrison said as an assemblyman, he has certain limitations in addressing these federal matters.

"I have repeatedly told the residents that I have done my part by raising these issues during the state assembly.

"Now, I request once again that the Kuala Selangor member of Parliament, who is more suited to handle federal matters, step in and assist," he said.

Kuala Selangor MP is Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, who is also the Health Minister.

Harrison added that if he had been in the MP's position, he would have acted sooner, noting that the current MP is not new to his role.

Harrison said the matter falls under the purview of the federal administration.

"These are federal issues; the establishment of a police station, fire station, and health clinic fall under the jurisdiction of federal administration, specifically the Home Ministry, Housing and Local Government Ministry and the Health Ministry respectively."

He added the recent fire at three factories in Alam Jaya Industrial Park, Puncak Alam, on Saturday night (Dec 14) which required a large-scale response from fire departments across several areas, namely Bestari Jaya, Sungai Buloh, Kapar, Bukit Jelutong, Petaling Jaya, Damansara, and Batu Arang should serve as a wake-up call for the matter to be addressed immediately.

The incident, he said, highlighted the increasing vulnerability of Puncak Alam's community, particularly given its rapid expansion and growing population.

Permuafakatan Persatuan Penduduk Puncak Alam chairman Mohd Hanif Md Sultan said the residents have been calling for the establishment of both a police station and a fire station in the township for years.

He said the township has seen significant development yet lacks these essential services that are critical to ensuring the safety and security of its residents.
