KUANTAN: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s plan of holding a discussion with the leader of the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) smacks of desperation, Umno vice president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said today.
He added that other Pakatan Harapan leaders' unfavourable response to the move shows that cracks are forming within the opposition coalition.
"It is very obvious that there is no unity (among the opposition) and that Dr Mahathir's act smacks of desperation. (The decision to meet Hindraf) may have been made due to personal reasons or (based on) emotions," said Hishammuddin.
He further noted that disagreement over the move can be seen in PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali's lukewarm response to Hindraf’s bid to be part of Pakatan Harapan.
Hishammuddin, who is also Defence Minister, was speaking at a press conference after opening the Umno Paya Besar Division delegates' meeting here today.
It was reported that Pakatan Harapan chairman Dr Mahathir will meet with Hindraf’s P. Waythamoorthy on Thursday to discuss the feasibility of Hindraf joining Pakatan Harapan.
