KUANTAN: Details revealed in the on going Royal Commission of Inquiry on Bank Negara’s foreign exchange losses has made heads turn.
Pahang Tourism and Culture Committee chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Sharkar Shamsudin said he finds the claims made so far to be shocking.
Sharkar was referring to the testimony made by former BNM assistant government Datuk Abdul Murad Khalid in the inquiry yesterday.
He said Murad’s claim the BNM lost RM31.5 billion and how it was kept under wraps all these years were “stunning”.
“Those behind it were ‘lucky’ at the time because there was no social media,” he said adding if it was a cover up, it was well played.
Sharkar said the RCI has put matters on the right track as the issue needs to be dealt with in a transparent manner.
“So we should let the RCI do their work so that the rakyat could have a better understanding of the issue,” he said.
Sharkar expressed hope the RCI could unravel more details of what exactly happened so that such issue would not be repeated.
“It will also help clear the air among the public and allow good governance practiced by the present administration.”
