Malaysians advised to defer travel to Myanmar

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians have been advised to defer any travel to the Rakhine State, Myanmar, due to the escalating level of violence in the country.

In a travel advisory today, the Foreign Ministry advised all Malaysians to defer all non-essential travel to Myanmar. It also all Malaysians who are still in the country to take all necessary precautions and to be aware of the security situation at all times.

The ministry also urged Malaysians in Myanmar to abide by the country’s rules and regulations, as imposed by the local authorities, and to register themselves with the Malaysian embassy in Yangon.
