IPOH: A fresh video of thrill-seeking youths scaling the Ipoh sign has emerged, just months after their death-defying stunts went viral on social media.
This time, they brought along the Jalur Gemilang.
In the new 60-second video, the group was seen draping a giant Malaysian flag over the iconic structure located at KM294.4 of the North-South Expressway.
One of the group’s members, who wanted to be known only as Faiz, said the group wanted to display the spirit of ‘muhibbah’ in conjunction with Malaysia Day.
“Our intention was to showcase the spirit of harmony as we have youths from different backgrounds joining the stunt.
“We initially wanted to record a video of us making the Jalur Gemilang, but later decided to bring the flag along.
“We climbed the structure with a harness strapped on us.
“There were no fences erected in the area, so we decided to go ahead and climb the sign. We took about 10 minutes to do it,” he said, adding that the group did not obtain permission from the authorities prior to the stunt.
When contacted, Kampar district police chief Supt Ng Kong Soon said no reports have been lodged over the incident.
On Dec 31 last year, a group of eight people, including Faiz, scaled the 20-metre high structure and took photos and videos of the stunt.
Their action drew the ire of the Ipoh City Council and received mixed reactions from Netizens.
After the video went viral on social media early this year, members of the group met with the mayor and apologised for their dangerous stunt.
