KUALA LUMPUR: Five Malaysian women were accorded with awards for their achievements in business and leadership at the World Muslim Rania Award 2017 tonight.
The awards were dedicated to Muslim women to recognise their achievements in leadership and business from all Muslim countries, here.
Wife of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor presented the awards to the five and two others from Iran and Turkey.
She applauded the organiser for acknowledging the contributions of the women in Muslim society.
"This award embodies the basic principles, essence and values of Islam which accords equality in rewards or rights, for deeds or responsibilities," she said at the ceremony held in conjunction with the 8th Muslim World BIZ Exhibition and Conference 2017.
Rosmah said: "It is acknowledged that progress of women in various fields throughout the history of Islam has been possible when Muslim society stays true as 'ummatan wasatan'.
She said she believed that the path of “wasatiyah” (moderation) as adopted by Malaysia had empowered women of all ethnicities, religions and cultures to achieve excellence in every sector and rise to the top level in any organisation.
The award recipients are Maybank Bhd Malaysia chairman Datuk Mohaiyani Shamsudin, National Council of Women's Organisations president Prof Emerita Tan Sri Dr Sharifah Hapsah Shahabudin and A&W chairman Datuk Jamelah Abu Bakar, International Islamic University Malaysia rector Datuk Seri Dr Zaleha Kamaruddin and Hydrax Oil Sdn Bhd group managing director Datuk Hazimah Zainuddin.
The two foreign recipients are Seyedeh Fatemeh Moghimi of Sadid Bar International Transportation from Iran and Turkish journalist Sibel Eraslan.
Muslim World BIZ, started in 2010, is an annual event on trade exhibition and conferences on developing the Islamic economy.
