SK Damak in Jerantut forced to close due to flood

JERANTUT: SK Damak here was forced to close today after several buildings were inundated with floodwater following heavy rain since 3.30am.

The school was under 1m of water when the management decided to instruct pupils, who turned up around 7am, to return home, fearing the situation would worsen.

The school's Student's Affairs Senor Assistant Teacher Tuan Mohd Jaafar Tuan Man said the flood waters began to recede about 10am before teachers, with the assistance of firemen and villagers, began cleaning up the premises.

He said Sungai Damak had burst its banks following heavy rain since 3.30am and the school was inundated about 6am.

Mohd Jaafar said the school's preschool building and gallery, located on the ground floor not far from the river, was hit by mud floods.
