KK cops summon Warisan leaders to explain court gathering, candlelight vigil

KOTA KINABALU: Several top leaders from Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) have been called up by the police today to explain the recent gathering at a courthouse here.

However, district deputy police chief Superintendent George Ab Rakman when contacted said no arrest has been made and no investigation papers were opened.

“We just want to hear their story, why were they at the court and what happened there. We have heard their side of the story and they have informed us that it was not an organised gathering.

“When a person is caught and brought to court, definitely he or her family members and friends will be at the court. Same with this case. It is actually not an issue,” he said.

George said the party leaders were also asked to explain the presence of Warisan members at an open space opposite the Suria Shopping Mall, where they held a candlelight vigil on Oct 9.

“It was not considered an illegal gathering and they were not carrying banners. We also told them that we are monitoring (their) activities,” he said.

According to Warisan, 11 of their top leaders were summoned to the district police headquarters this afternoon.

Among them were its deputy president Darell Leiking, vice-president Junz Wong, Secretary-General Loretto Padua Jr, Information chief Honorsius Bosuin, Wirawati chief Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis, and Wirawati deputy chief Jo-Anna Henley Rampas.

Leiking confirmed their statements were recorded in connection with the presence of supporters in the court compound and the candlelight vigil.

"Everyone came on their own accord. It was not organised. It was of public interest and that's why people came." he said.
