PETALING JAYA: A Foodpanda delivery rider claims he was assaulted by a fellow motorist in a road rage incident in Bandar Utama on Tuesday.
The rider, known only as Aiman, was on his motorcycle when he came upon an accident scene at Jalan Tengkat at 6.30pm.
As Aiman slowed down at the scene, a man in a Toyota Hilux pickup truck honked at him in apparent displeasure.
The man alighted from his vehicle and yelled at Aiman, telling him to move. The man also allegedly kicked the motorcycle, causing Aiman to fall off the bike.
Aiman was then allegedly punched in the face several times before an auxiliary policeman intervened. The man fled the scene.
A video of the aftermath of the alleged assault has since gone viral on social media.
In the video, Aiman is heard telling other motorcyclists that he slowed down at the accident scene as he was waiting for his turn to move.
“Traffic was at a standstill so I couldn’t move. He (the pickup truck driver) got out of the vehicle, yelled and suddenly kicked my motorcycle,” he was heard saying.
Petaling Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zani Che Din said police are now looking for the pickup truck driver to aid their investigation.
“The victim sustained injuries to his right eye.
“The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt as well as Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief and causing damage to property,” he said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Foodpanda Malaysia Head of Delivery Operations, Kishore Nair, said the company would be cooperating with the authorities to assist investigations.
“Foodpanda always puts our riders first as they play a very important role in what we do.
“Unfortunately, what happened was out of our control. We will support Aiman throughout this period,” he said in a statement.
Nair added that Aiman was recovering well.
