Food delivery rider killed in Sungai Petani crash

SUNGAI PETANI: A food delivery rider died after his Honda Ex5 collided with a Proton Iswara in Jalan Persiaran Aman Jaya 2 here today.

In the 10am incident, Muhammad Hasmadi Jamil, 24, died due to severe head injuries.

Kuala Muda district police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Azharuddin Wan Ismail said the car, driven by a 26-year-old woman, was travelling from Taman Seroja towards the Alor Star-Butterworth road.

The victim's motorcycle was approaching from the opposite direction.

"The accident happened when the driver lost control of her car, causing it to veer into the opposite lane.

"The victim's motorcycle, travelling in the opposite direction, was unable to avoid the car and struck the left side of the vehicle," he said today.

Wan Azharuddin added that the driver, who works as a sales assistant at a bookstore, sustained injuries to her hands and head.

She was taken to Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital in Sungai Petani for treatment.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
