Bukit Lanjan Orang Asli pupils thankful for Dialog Group's assistance

Kuala Lumpur: All 177 Orang Asli pupils of SK Bukit Lanjan (Asli) today paid tribute to Dialog Group Bhd (Dialog), an oil, gas and petrochemical company, for helping to improve their lives through MyKasih ‘Love My School’ programme.

The school's student affairs teacher, Suhaidi Sapuan said the children, mainly from economically-challenged background, were thankful of the assistance provided by the company.

He said since taking part in the programme, the school’s academic performance has improved significantly and this was proven when the school got its first-ever straight 5A’s UPSR student in 2015.

He said in terms of learning experience, the programme has allowed pupils to become more confident and happier, especially when speaking in front of the class.

“Over a short period, I can see that the pupils are now more attentive, active and committed in class.

“This is presumably due to access in getting learning materials such as books and stationery,” he said.

Attendance among pupils too, said Suhaidi has increased from 76 per cent in 2013 to 87 per cent in 2016.

He added that the school also received ICT facilities, including computers, projectors and printers, to meet the needs of a 21st century learning environment.

Apart from academic, the programme has also nurtured the children to excel in sports.

This year, Suhaidi said SK Bukit Lanjan (Asli)’s rugby team ‘Lanjan Tigers’ bagged 2 gold medals and 2 silver medals by actively taking part in various district and national-level tournaments.

With continuous support from the programme, he said the first Orang Asli rugby team will hopefully get the exposure, training and necessary equipments needed to hone their skills in the sport.

Dialog executive chairman Tan Sri Dr Ngau Boon Keat said empowering the community should start by focusing on education for the young.

“A well-rounded children are the families’ key to a better future.” he added.
