PUTRAJAYA: What you share on social media reflects the level of your integrity, says Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.
The Prime Minister's wife, speaking at the closing of the Millennia Orator programme tonight, urged Malaysians, especially the younger generation, to be trustworthy and accountable when using social media.
"We should not use social media to spread lies or statements which we ourselves are unsure of their authenticity.
"Practise the culture of double-checking any data and information received so that we are responsible for any information that we wish to share.
"Be among those who have high levels of integrity when it comes to spreading spreading information or posting things in our own social media accounts," she said.
The Millennia Orator programme is a platform geared towards developing public speakers and debaters through three categories - the New Millennium Debate, 'Bicara Tunas' and Pitching Competition.
The programme is part of the Millennia Tour Series, jointly organised by Yayasan Minda, the Education Ministry and Persatuan Alumni Pemimpin Mahasiswa Aspirasi Malaysia.
In this respect, Rosmah urged programme participants to become agents of transformation for Malaysia.
"As the spokespersons of transformation, you should take up the role of speaking up on things that are good and positive about this country.
"You should be equally acute in deflecting negative remarks on our beloved nation from irresponsible quarters.
"Therefore, I am taking this opportunity to urge the millennial generation to take advantange of social media," she added.
She said young Malaysians are future leaders who will chart the country's path.
"The current leaders will one day make way for them (young Malaysians) to take over the country's leadership.
"This is why you must always be ready to accept such a big responsibility and constantly think as well as work towards building a developed and prosperous nation," said Rosmah, who is also Yayasan Minda patron.
Rosmah later presented prizes to the champions of the three categories of the Millennia Orator programme. Sekolah Datuk Abdul Razak Negri Sembilan won the New Millennium Debate, Syed Ali Zufar Alkaff Syed Muhammad Azbi for Bicara Tunas and Roshan James Rober James for the Pitching Competition.
Sekolah Datuk Abdul Razak student Amin Baihaqi was named Best Debater.
