ISKANDAR PUTERI: Former Johor Baru Central Municipal Council (MPJBT) president Adib Azhari Daud was today sworn in as the first mayor for Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP).
The ceremony was held during the state assembly meeting in Kota Iskandar at 3.30pm, witnessed by Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin and fellow state government officials.
Khaled, who in the morning had tabled out the state budget for 2018, said Adib's appointment was based on his years of service in various governments agencies. His 27 years of working experience also made him eligible and lent credibility to his appointment as the first mayor of Johor's second city.
MBIP, formerly known as MPJBT, received its city status yesterday when Sultan Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar ordered for the municipality to be upgraded to city status, making Iskandar Puteri the official sister city to Johor Baru.
Khaled, in his congratulatory speech, said the vision of having a second city like Iskandar Puteri reflects the rapid development and steady growth taking place in Johor.
"Iskandar Puteri will become a city unlike any other as it will be geared to become a smart city and incorporate technological advancement as a medium of a transformation catalyst," he said.
Khaled believed that with Adib's leadership in MBIP, the transformation of Iskandar Puteri to be a developed smart city will be achieved.
