ISKANDAR PUTERI: Three factory units in the SILC Industrial Area caught fire today.
Iskandar Puteri Fire and Rescue Station chief Mohd Faiz Suleiman said one of the factories is believed to have stored chemicals, which led to an explosion.
"There are three factory units on fire. One of them contains chemicals, including thinner. An explosion occurred, but there were no injuries to our personnel," he said.
Operations Commander Mohamad Anuar Mohamad Amdzah said they received an emergency call about the fire at 11.33am.
He added that their team arrived eight minutes later. Firefighting operations received support from the Larkin, Skudai, Pekan Nenas, Pontian Baru, and Sebana Cove fire stations, involving 39 firefighters.
"As of now, no victims have been reported, and firefighting operations are still ongoing," he said.
Earlier, the incident went viral, with reports of an explosion causing toxic odors.
There were also reports of schools closing due to toxic gas released from the fire.
