KOTA BARU: The overall flood situation in Kelantan is continuing to improve thanks to favourable weather, with only 2,411 people still at relief centres state-wide.
A spokesman from the state police headquarters' flood operation room said as of 8am today, the 2,411 flood victims are at 14 relief centres in three districts.
He said 1,417 of the evacuees are in Pasir Mas district, 970 are in Tumpat and 24 are in Pasir Putih.
Other flood evacuees began returning to their homes in stages since Sunday after floodwaters began receding in many areas.
"Sungai Golok is the only river that is still above its danger level this morning. At 8am today, the river was measured at 9.29m, which is 0.29m above its danger level,” said the spokesman.
But the weather forecast for the coming days is not encouraging.
Heavy rain is expected to hit Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and Johor beginning Thursday.
In a statement yesterday, the Malaysian Meteorological Department said lightning, heavy rain and strong winds are expected in worst-affected districts until Saturday.
