SEGAMAT: Six members in a family died in a horrific collision between their car and an express bus in Kampung Melayu Raya near here this evening.
The accident occurred at KM176 of Jalan Johor Baru - Seremban about 6.20pm when the family's Perodua Viva swerved into the opposite lane and collided with the bus.
Segamat police chief Superintendent Raub Selamat, in confirming the accident, said investigation revealed that the accident occured when the driver of the Viva lost control of the car, sending it to the opposite lane.
"The car then collided with the bus, which was headed from Johor Baru to Segamat.
"The driver of the Viva and three other passengers died on the spot. Another was rushed to the Segamat Hospital but later died at the hospital.
"I've been told that a baby was also rushed to the hospital by paramedic and has been warded at the hospital's intensive care unit" he said.
The baby succumbed to injuries at about 10pm.
Raub said investigations are still ongoing to determine the cause of the incident and the identities of the victims.
Meanwhile, Bandar Baru Segamat Fire and Rescue Department chief Mohd Aizah Mamat said an eight-member team in two fire engines and an ambulance were dispatched to the scene.
