PM to arrive in Maldives for two-day official visit

MALE, Maldives: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is expected to arrive here on Tuesday for a two-day official visit.

Accompanied by his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor and a Malaysian delegation, Najib’s trip is at the invitation of Maldives President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, local media have reported.

The visit also coincides with the 49th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties between the two countries, and Najib will further cement relations by exploring opportunities for future cooperation.

Based on a report by Maldives’ The Sun portal, a raft of Memorandums of Understanding between the two countries will be signed, and numerous bilateral deliberations will be held during the Prime Minister’s visit.

Maldives and Malaysia collaborate extensively in human resources development, military and police programmes, as well as advancing the institutional and legislative framework of the judiciary, the report said.

“Najib will be undertaking this visit 33 years after the previous Malaysian prime minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, first made an official visit to Maldives,” the report added.
