PCM chief submits new evidence on Penang undersea tunnel project to MACC

PUTRAJAYA: Parti Cinta Malaysia's (PCM) Datuk Huan Cheng Guan has presented new evidence to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to aid its probe into Penang's undersea tunnel development and three paired roads project.

Huan arrived at the MACC headquarters at 11am to present the evidence. He hoped that it would help aid the investigation process.

He said the evidence touches on the development of the 19.5 kilometre Pan Island Link 1(PIL-1) highway that will connect to the Penang International airport, which will cost the government RM7.5 billion.

“The public cannot afford to pay RM7.5 billion,l for a state development project. We’re hoping that with the new evidence, MACC will probe the matter accordingly as at RM385 million per km, the highway will be the most expensive in Malaysia by more than double.

“The Penang government has not replied to the reports made against them. They claim to practise transparency but until now they have not provided any explanation on why the project took five years just to research,” Huan said.

He said the DAP-led state government should have included state-owned Penang Development Corp (PDC) in the project so that the public can benefit from the profits made.

Huan also questioned whether the Penang government was hiding anything as it had filed an injunction to prevent third parties from issuing any statements on the undersea tunnel project.

In July last year, PCM had submitted evidence of malfeasance related to the Penang undersea tunnel project.

Later in October, the Works Ministry revealed that it had not received any feasibility and design studies reports from the state government.
