KUALA LUMPUR: More than 100 cartoonists are showcasing their works at Muzium Negara in conjunction with the “Pameran Kartun and Kita” exhibition.
Featuring more than 500 local traditional, digital and animated cartoons, the exhibition offers a glimpse into both the past and future.
Organised by Muzium Negara in collaboration with the Malaysian Cartoonists Club, the exhibition aims to raise awareness on the benefit of cartoons and comics as an effective communication tool.
It also aims to educate the public on the potential of the local cartoon industry.
“This exhibition brings back memories for us as cartoonists and it goes to show that we are appreciated. It will also help the younger generation understand our works better.
“The current generation has various types of entertainment unlike previous generations.
“We also face great competition from the international cartoon and comic industry. So, this exhibition will show to the people the achievements we have made locally and internationally,” said Gila-Gila magazine co-founder Jaafar Taib.
The 65-year-old cartoonist and artist, who made his mark in the industry since the 1970s, said the exhibition also provides space for young and budding cartoonists to showcase their works.
Malaysian Cartoonists Club president and House of Cartoon and Comic Malaysia founder Mohd Desa Omar, popularly known as Juragan, said the club hopes to organise similar exhibitions at museums nationwide.
The exhibition is open to the public from 8am to 5pm until April 15 and entrance is free.
