Police tracking suspects in Sungai Buloh chemical waste dumping

SHAH ALAM: Police are chasing several leads into the eight barrels of suspected chemical waste that were dumped in a drain at Kampung Desa Aman, Sungai Buloh.

Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said they were tracing the whereabouts of three individuals.

"We are looking for these three individuals who we believe can help with further investigations.

"We are working on several leads into the case," he told reporters on Monday.

An investigation paper has been opened under Section 430 of the Penal Code for knowingly causing damage to public water supplies or air quality.

It was reported that police launched an investigation into the dumping of eight barrels of suspected chemical waste.

Selangor cops confirmed that efforts were underway to identify the culprits.

Selangor Environment Department director Nor Aziah Jaafar was also quoted saying that the eight barrels were removed from the site and taken to a safe disposal location in Bukit Tagar.

The barrels which contained liquid believed to be chemical waste were found on Sept 24.

A team of Fire and Rescue Department personnel from the Sungai Buloh Fire and Rescue station was deployed to the scene after they were alerted to the discovery of the barrels around 9pm.
