A STATE-of-the-art religious building complex, here, looks set to transform the island’s landscape.
Owned by the Labuan Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP), the RM26 million Darul Kifayah Complex opened its doors in Tanjung Purun last Tuesday.
Darul Kifayah principal Abd Fatah Hafiz said the complex was built to serve underprivileged students, Muslim converts and orphans.
“The complex is attached to religious primary and secondary schools. It consists of a hostel, multipurpose hall, food theatre, administration building, surau and staff quarters. The location is far from the hustle and bustle of the town,” he said.
He said the new intake of 64 students, in addition to the 250 senior students (from Sekolah Menengah Agama MAIWP) who enrolled last Tuesday, were from Labuan, Sabah and Sarawak.
Of the 64, 18 are primary school pupils and 46 secondary school students.
Fatah said the complex included amenities such as common areas for meetings and other community events.
The construction of the complex was based on an idea to accommodate more open, common areas where students could congregate before school or during lunch.
“It doesn’t prevent students from gathering in groups, but makes it easier for administrators to control untoward incidents and other potential disciplinary problems,” he said.
The building layout is conducive for staff collaboration and student learning.
“For example, subjects that complement each other are grouped in the same wing of the facility, and classrooms are located in ‘schools’ within the school, allowing teachers to collaborate on lesson plans more easily,” he added. - Bernama
