KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Home Minister Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed said the establishment of a special court to deal with human trafficking issues is the result of prior negotiations with former Chief Justice Tun Arifin Zakaria.
“We recognised their (the courts’) limitations and now we have come up with the commitment to specifically hear and decide on human trafficking cases.
“This will help us clear many cases of human trafficking and those arrested under the Immigration Act,” he said here today.
It was reported that a special court to deal with human trafficking issues would be established this year, with the first one being set up in Klang.
The pilot project would begin in May or June and similar courts would be set up in phases this year in Ipoh, Melaka, Muar , Kota Kinabalu and Balik Pulau.
The special court is aimed at disposing off human trafficking cases quickly.
