Police sergeant dies in fatal accident at East Coast Expressway

MARAN: A policeman's planned vacation with his wife ended in tragedy when he was killed in an accident at Km145 of the East Coast Expressway (LPT) here this afternoon.

In the 2.10pm incident, 51-year-old victim Sergeant Mustapa Abdul Aziz, attached to the Kapar Traffic Police station, Klang - was killed on the spot when his Nissan Grand Livina turned turtle.

His wife Juria Japri, who is a 48-year-old nurse, is currently being treated at Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital (HOSHAS) in Temerloh.

District police chief Deputy Superintendent Norzamri Abd Rahman said Juria was seriously injured and left traumatised by the accident.

"The victim and his wife were on their way to the Gambang Community College, Kuantan, from Klang.

"The wife, who was driving, lost control of the vehicle and it flipped before crashing."

Norzamri said Mustapa died on the spot while Juria was extricated out (of the vehicle) by members of the public and rushed to HOSHAS for treatment.

He said early investigations found that the accident happened as the vehicle was passing through a bend in the road during rainy weather.

He said the police are investigating the matter under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
