KOTA KINABALU: The Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) here has provided services to about 3.5 million people since December 2013.
Its chief, Richard Chiew, said feedback on the one-stop centre, which operates from 8am to 9pm every day, had been very encouraging.
He said city folk lauded the initiative by the government.
“People are glad that they
can settle transactions conveniently and speedily as various facilities and services are under one roof.”
He said the centre had an average of 2,000 visitors a day, with the National Registration Department, Road Transport Department, Immigration Department, Pos Malaysia and 1Malaysia Clinic getting the most visitors.
“People are very happy with Kota Kinabalu UTC because it can meet all their needs. We hope to see more people using the services at this centre.”
Kota Kinabalu UTC in Jalan Belia, off Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman here, was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak on Nov 15, 2014.
Two more UTCs were later established in Sabah — in Tawau on Aug 15, 2016 and Keningau on Nov 17, 2016, while another is being planned for Sandakan.
Chiew said Kota Kinabalu UTC provided services under 38 government departments and agencies, as well as other facilities, such as a library, gym, automated teller machines and cafeteria.
Office worker Dayangku Syamira Pengiran Bakar, 28, said she appreciated UTC’s operating hours, which allowed her to complete errands conveniently after office hours at the same place.
“The UTC makes it easier for working people as everything can be done at one place.
“I don’t have to drive far or face traffic congestion.”
She suggested that more UTCs be built in Sabah.
Ismail Saip, 49, said he had been taking full advantage of the Kota Kinabalu UTC, adding that its location was very strategic.
Rizal Sigal, 43, said the UTC was “convenient, simple and cost saving”.
He said he was glad the UTC had a health clinic. — BERNAMA
