UiTM campuses to go cashless with Boost app

SUNGAI BULOH: All Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) campuses will soon go cashless in partnership with Axiata’s Boost app-based mobile wallet.

At the launch of the largest cashless campus to date – the UiTM Sungai Buloh campus – Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh said this partnership will give students the platform to adapt to a mode of business that would be the norm in the future.

“The future is not only about being cashless, but cardless, too. If transactions require a card, then it is not cashless,” said Idris.

“This is the way the Fourth Industrial Revolution is and students will have a chance to adapt quickly before they move into the real world.”

The Boost app is a mobile wallet that allows cash transfers and payments through mobile phones by scanning the QR codes at all linked outlets.

On the partnership with UiTM, Axiata president and chief executive officer Tan Sri Jamaludin Ibrahim said this meant payments, such as tuition fees and book purchases, can be done via the app.

“We are starting off with campuses in the Klang Valley, such as Sungai Buloh, Shah Alam, Puncak Alam and Petaling Jaya, and eventually, all UiTM campuses across the country will be cashless campuses using the Boost app.”

Also present was UiTM Vice-Chancellor Datuk Dr Hassan Said, who said the time taken to adopt the cashless policy, which was just two months, signified that UiTM was ready to adapt to changes at a swift pace.
