Number of flood victims at Kota Marudu rises to 236

KOTA MARUDU: The number of flood victims seeking shelter at the local community hall here has risen from 118 to 236 last night due to the worsening flood.

The flood evacuees are from Kampung Parong, Kampung Keranji and Kampung Popok Darat.

The three villages are inundated in floodwater following continuous heavy rains since Monday night.

A Sabah Civil Defence Force spokesman said the water level at a nearby river, Sungai Bongon, had risen significantly.

“We will continue monitoring the situation before allowing villagers to return home,” he said.

Yesterday, two relief centres, Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Teritipan and a Rukun Tetangga building here, were closed at 1pm after 117 flood victims were allowed to return home.
