Flood evacuee count eases in Kedah, rise in Kota Setar and Pendang

ALOR STAR: The number of flood evacuees in Kedah dipped slightly overnight, though evacuations increased in Kota Setar and Pendang as conditions in Baling improved.

An 8am update from the Kedah Disaster Management Committee Secretariat reported that 1,278 evacuees from 403 families are sheltering in 11 temporary flood relief centres (PPS) across four districts.

This marks a slight decrease from the 1,285 evacuees from 406 families recorded yesterday evening at 8pm.

In Kota Setar, the number of flood evacuees has risen to 489 from 144 families sheltering in four PPS, up from 409 yesterday.

In Pendang, the number has increased to 354 evacuees from 89 families housed in two PPS, up slightly from 353.

In Pokok Sena, the situation remains unchanged with five evacuees from two families still housed in one PPS.

However, in Baling, the number has dropped to 470 evacuees from 158 families in four PPS, down from the 518 recorded earlier.

Meanwhile, the Drainage and Irrigation Department's Public Infobanjir website indicated that two rivers in Kota Setar—Sungai Anak Bukit at Jambatan TAR and at Taman Aman—have breached danger levels.
