HUTAN MELINTANG: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced an allocation of RM2.75 million to upgrade the infrastructure of Sekolah Menengah Sains Teluk Intan (SEMESTI) here.
He said the allocation was to equip the digital library with 40 laptops, upgrade the classrooms to the 21st century and upgrade the gymnasium to a mini auditorium, paint the 10 school blocks and provide LCD television facilities to facilitate teaching and learning activities in the classroom.
“I also approved RM350,000 for air conditioning in the surau and dining hall and RM50,000 for the loud speaker system,” he said when speaking at the Tautan Kasih Selautan Harapan programme in SEMESTI here today.
Ahmad Zahid said the allocation was in line with the government’s policy to make Malaysia a nation with the best educational system.
“We know that the best system is the education system because a good education system is the mother of all systems,” he said.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also Bagan Datuk Member of Parliament, said the existence of a fully residential school was for the country’s progress by setting aside all differences.
“When the late Tun Abdul Razak established boarding schools, he saw its potential among parents who are poor, rural students, Orang Asli students , students in the interior of Sabah and Sarawak, Chinese and Indian students.
“These are all being incorporated in one education system because in our education, we are setting aside racial differences and backgrounds as we prioritise the overall development of the nation,” he said. - Bernama
