GEORGE TOWN: Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng will be summoned by police next week to provide a statement over allegations that he “indoctrinated children” on March 17.
Deputy state police chief Datuk Roslee Chik said the request is part of official procedure in order to complete their investigation of Lim under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
“We have yet to decide on whether we will go to him (to have his statement taken), or to summon him to a location yet to be determined.
“We will also record statements from other witnesses. (We) expect the probe to be completed soon,” Roslee told newsmen after the state-level Police Day celebration here today.
Section 233 is the improper use of network facilities or network services, and a person who commits an offence under the section shall, on conviction, be liable to a fine not exceeding RM50,000, or a maximum one year’s imprisonment, or both; and shall also be liable to a further fine of RM1,000 for every day the offence is continued post-conviction.
Lim has come under fire for “indoctrinating children with hate politics” at a recent Penang People’s Tuition Centre launch ceremony.
A 32-second video of Lim singing and dancing while mocking the Goods and Services (GST) policy to an improvised “A, B, C” song at Mutiara Idaman 2 here went viral last week, and led to outrage and a string of police reports.
