KUALA LUMPUR: A man in Ipoh has learned the hard way that when you refuel your car, you HAVE to cut the engine first.
CCTV footage recently emerged on social media of an incident at an Ipoh petrol station which could have had far more “explosive” consequences.
The now-viral video opens with a car pulling up to a gas dispenser and two men exiting the vehicle – one to fill the petrol, the other, presumably, to make payment.
The second man returns from the cashier and begins chatting with his friend, who casually inserts the petrol spout into the tank filler.
Suddenly, the petrol nozzle and tank filler burst into flames.
Out of reflex, both men leap backwards. After a pause, the first man reaches forward and pulls the nozzle out of the filler.
This proves to be a mistake, as the pump is still discharging petrol. The act splashes petrol all over the ground, the fuel dispenser and the second man, who is briefly on fire.
Both men flee from the conflagration in panic, and the station appears deserted for several seconds. The fire almost dies out before station employees appear en masse with fire extinguishers and put out the remaining flames in a cloud of foam.
No serious injuries were reported.
According to reports, the fire is believed to have started because the car’s engine was still running while it was being filled up with petrol. – SAYS.COM
