Petrol station operator to be fined RM1 million [WATCH]

NIBONG TEBAL: A petrol station operator will be fined RM1 million for selling subsidised petrol to a foreigner in Sungai Bakap.

Penang Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry director S. Jegan said closed-circuit television footage revealed that the premises allegedly allowed a foreign vehicle to refuel subsidised petrol at 2:24pm yesterday afternoon.

"Based on a complaint, the vehicle with a neighbouring country's registration plate was seen refuelling with suspected RON95 using a yellow nozzle," he said in a statement here today.

He added that the ministry will conduct more aggressive monitoring at all petrol stations, especially those near state borders, to prevent sales of subsidised petrol to foreigners.

He said strict action will be taken against any party found violating the Control of Supplies Act 1961 and the Control of Supplies Regulations 1974.

"Upon conviction, individuals can face a penalty of up to RM1 million or imprisonment for up to three years, or both, while corporations can be fined up to RM2 million."
