KUALA LUMPUR: The Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) is investigating the death of a detainee whose body was found hanging in a cell at the Selama police station, Perak on March 17.
EAIC chairman Datuk A Aziz A Rahim said the commission had recorded relevant statements and in the midst of completing investigation papers before announcing its findings to the public.
“If there are recommendations (in improving standard operating procedures, among others), they will be conveyed to the Royal Malaysian Police’s Integrity and Compliance Standard Department for further improvement,” Aziz said in a statement today.
He reiterated that probes implemented by the EAIC were independent, transparent and professional based on the authority accorded to the commission under the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission Act 2009 (Act 700).
In the 9.30am incident, the 39-year old detainee who was arrested under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 3(1) of the Special Preventive Measures 1985, was found hung and dead in the cell by two policemen on duty. – BERNAMA
