KUANTAN: Stay away from touching on sensitive issues and campaign prudently, advised the Regent of Pahang Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah to political parties who will be campaigning in the 14th General Election(GE14) today.
He said the candidates, both from the ruling and opposition parties should not touch on issues that could jeopardise the harmony as their "campaign tool" when they were on the ground.
The ruler said candidates contesting in GE14 should not utilise the general election as a medium to confuse the people and ruin the existing unity.
"It is not easy for us to unite all races in this country and Pahang in particular, as it took over 61 years to do so.
"Although there are certain things that have to be improved but at least in Malaysia, we still have a place to take shelter compared to some other countries," he said in his speech before handing assistance the senior citizens from the Tionghua community at SMK (Cina) Tanah Putih here today.
Also present was Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob.
He advised political parties not to use places of worship including the mosque as the location for them to hold their election campaigns.
"The mosque and other places of worship have to be always respected....mosques, for example, should be respected as it is a place for Muslims to worship Allah," he said.
Meanwhile, Tengku Abdullah also reminded the people from Pahang to grab the opportunities offered through mega projects including the Malaysia-China Kuantan Industrial Park (MCKIP) and East Coast Rail Link (ECRL).
"If we do not take the opportunities, then outsiders will take them. I have told on several occasions that the people from Pahang should enjoy some benefits from the success of the mega projects here," he said.
