KLUANG: Johor police chief Datuk M Kumar reminded all parties and supporters during the two-week Mahkota by-election campaigning period against raising sensitive issues, particularly those related to race, religion, and royalty (3R).
He also urged them to respect the rules and maintain a peaceful atmosphere.
"Some 772 police officers and personnel have been deployed across Kluang. Any political campaigns or rallies must obtain permits from the Kluang district police chief, following established procedures," Kumar told a press conference at the Dewan Ibrahim Ismail nomination centre, here, today.
He urged candidates and their campaigning teams to comply with legal requirements.
"I have instructed the district police chief to meet with the candidates to outline legal aspects related to permit applications for rallies and other campaign activities," he said.
He added that the nomination process for the Mahkota by-election concluded in a peaceful and controlled environment at Dewan Tunku Ibrahim Ismail.
Johor police deployed 1,027 officers to ensure security during the nomination proceedings.
He said both candidates and their supporters displayed professionalism and adhered to election laws and regulations throughout the process.
There were no untoward incidents reported, and the nomination process was peaceful and orderly.
The campaigning period officially begins today and will end on Sept 27.
As a precautionary measure, 38 police officers have been specifically tasked with managing potential flash flood situations in Mahkota.
He also said that there were no identified flood-prone areas in the Mahkota, but preparations were being made as a precautionary measure.
"We have activated our contingency plan should there be floods. Five-tonne trucks are on standby at the district police headquarters, and the 38 officers are ready to assist," he said.
