Nenggiri polls: Ku Li monitoring progress of BN's campaign

GUA MUSANG: Barisan Nasional has been sending daily reports to Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, who is the election director for Nenggiri by-election, on the progress of the party's campaign.

BN deputy election director for Nenggiri by-election Mohd Syahbuddin Hashim said the reports were also based on the feedback received on its candidate, Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani.

Syahbuddin told a press conference in Bukit Cekati here today that Tengku Razaleigh, fondly known as Ku Li, would join the campaign on Tuesday (Aug 13).

"Although he (Ku Li) will join us in the campaign for Nenggiri by-election on Aug 13, we send him daily reports on the candidate's activities and the campaign's progress.

"Ku Li is monitoring us from time to time and wants to know the status of our campaign.

"Although he is not with us (in the campaign activities), as an election director, he has all the track records on the number of voters in every polling district," said the Galas assemblyman.

On whether former Bersatu Nenggiri assemblyman Mohd Azizi Abu Naim is participating in the campaign, Syahbuddin, who is also Kelantan opposition leader, said he learned that Azizi had given his support to Azmawi.

"I met his family during a recent campaign event and they told me that Azizi has asked them to support BN's candidate.

"He joins the campaign but maybe not openly," he said.

The Nenggiri by-election was called after Kelantan Speaker Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah declared the seat, previously held by Azizi, vacant.

In the Kelantan state election in August last year, Azizi won the Nenggiri state seat with a narrow majority of 810 votes in a straight fight against a BN candidate.

Azizi, who is also Gua Musang member of parliament, was among seven elected representatives dismissed from Bersatu for supporting the unity government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Nenggiri state seat has 20,245 eligible voters, who will cast their votes in 20 districts.
