Najib wishes Happy Songkran to Malaysian Siamese

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today wished all Malaysians of Siamese descent a Happy Songkran festival.

He hoped that the festival would bring a new chapter for the Siamese community to continue working hard to improve the quality of their lives and families.

“I would also like to thank Malaysians of Siamese descent for your undivided support, trust and cooperation given to the government all these years, which subsequently allowed us to work together to develop the nation.

“Rest assured that the government would continue to care of the interests and needs of all societies and we never sideline the Siamese community in the country.

“These include extending some privilege of the Bumiputera to the Siamese community including for the admission to public higher learning institutions and Amanah Saham Bumiputera,” he said in a statement, adding that it reflected the 1Malaysia spirit.

Najib also hoped that the Siamese community will continue to support the government and look forward towards the National Transformation 2050 (TN50).

“This, is in line with our aspiration to build a nation that is confident, celebrate its own diversities and proud of our successes, as well as always ensure that all people are together towards success.

“Lastly, I hope that all Malaysians of Siamese descent will always be together in this spirit and hopefully the New Year will bring more happiness and prosperity.”

The Songkran festival is celebrated in Thailand as a traditional New Year's Day from Apr 13 to 15.
