KUALA LUMPUR: The Palestine Embassy in Malaysia confirms that the Egyptian government has given the permission to transfer the remains of slain Palestine lecturer Dr Fadi M R AlBatsh to Gaza.
Palestine ambassador to Malaysia Datuk Dr Anwar Al Agha said the permission was obtained yesterday afternoon.
“We got the notification from the Egypt Embassy in Malaysia yesterday that Fadi’s body is allowed to be brought back to Palestine via the republic. We have informed the news to his family members.
“Fadi’s body and his family members are scheduled to leave for Egypt via Egypt Air from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at 7pm,” he said when contacted.
Anwar said an embassy representative would accompany Fadi’s family members and his remains to Egypt.
The flight will take about 12 hours.
“Upon arriving in Egypt, the remains will be brought directly to Gaza, which is expected to take about five hours,” he said.
Meanwhile, the family, led by Fadi’s younger brother Rami AlBatsh has claimed his body at Selayang Hospital mortuary at 12.45pm today.
His coffin, drapped with the Palestinian flag, was later taken to a nearby surau for the final prayers before heading to the airport.
Close friends, students and embassy officials including Anwar were present at the mortuary.
