KUALA LUMPUR: A video clip of a Malaysian shaman or “bomoh” using a rather unusual tool to “heal” a female patient has gone viral on social media.
The 1-minute-and-10-second video shows the bomoh – who sports a distinctive pointed hat – reciting a Quranic verse while facing a woman who appears to be in a trance. After a pause, he raises a children’s toy gun, points it at the woman’s chest and pulls the trigger.
This causes the toy’s multi-coloured lights to flash; and a recording of a child chanting “Fire! Fire!” over the simulated sound of a machine gun firing to play.
All the while, the bomoh trains a red laser dot on the woman’s chest.
The woman, meanwhile, begins to wriggle and rock in place, as if being sprayed by the bullets of an automatic firearm. Fascinating stuff.
So who is this upstart bomoh who might give the has-been Raja Bomoh a run for his money?
According to the Malay Mail, he is Ustaz Raffi from Kuala Terengganu, and he boasts a Facebook page called Perubatan Islam Ustaz Raffi.
The page features several videos of Ustaz Raffi in action, curing various ills – all using his trusty toy gun.
We’re not sure of the efficacy of Ustaz Raffi’s “treatments.” All we want to see is a toy gun duel between him and Raja Bomoh. That would be EPIC.
