PUTRAJAYA: Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali began his 30-day unrecorded leave today.
“I am on 30-day unrecorded leave. So physically, I will not be in my office today,” he said in a short message to the media.
He maintained, however, that he is still the Attorney-General serving at the pleasure of the King.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said that Mohamed Apandi had been asked to go on leave and that the Solicitor-General, Datuk Engku Nor Faizah Engku Atek, will stand in for him with immediate effect.
Media representatives have been waiting at the Attorney General’s Chambers in Presint 4 here since 8am today in anticipation of Mohamed Apandi’s arrival at his office.
“Don’t waste your precious time at the Attorney General’s Chambers. My salam and regards to my media friends out there. Will be seeing all of you on some other occasion. Insya Allah. Thank you all,” he added.
Mohamed Apandi turned up for work as usual yesterday, despite Dr Mahathir’s remark last Saturday that “there is no A-G in the country now”. – Bernama
