KOTA BARU: Kelantan Mufti Datuk Mohamad Shukri Mohamad today advised Muslims not to waste food during breaking of fast either at their respective homes or at hotels.
He said Islam encouraged people to control their appetite and not waste food during Ramadan.
“Among the objectives of fasting is to control and handle our appetite consistently so that our fasting will be more meaningful.
“Therefore, we must buy less food or take small portions while breaking of fast at hotels to prevent food being wasted. Just take food that is enough for you and your family,” he said today.
On the habit of certain people who liked to humiliate ohers or write some negative comments about others through the social media, he said the practice was not good especially in the holy month of Ramadan.
“Muslims must respect the Ramadan month. They should write good words instead of humiliating others in the social media including in Facebook.”
Shukri said humiliating others was haram (forbidden) and it was like exposing the people’s aurat (parts of the body which need to be covered in Islam).
“Exposing other people’s aurat is like exposing our own aurat in public which is forbidden.
“It is good for us to take the opportunity of this holy month to do something beneficial such as reading the Quran and zikir (prayers),” he said.
