KUALA LUMPUR: Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin said the local council election can be held in three years time.
Zuraida, however, said the ministry needed to review the mechanisms in order to implement it.
“This was based in my observations in Indonesia and New Zealand. We hope that the local council elections could be done by stages starting either in Selangor and Penang,” she said.
Zuraida was commenting on the progress of the election which is under the ministry’s jurisdiction.
During a site visit to PPR Pinggiran Bukit Jalil Block L and M which is under the housing ministry jurisdiction, Zuraidah said that among the big issues that the residents here are facing include water problems.
“This issue has been going on since 2015, the residents here have highlighted this problem even before I became minister.
“At first we thought that they are having issues with the water consortium, but today we noticed that the issue was an internal, of which both blocks were having water pump problems.
She said the minister is also looking at changing the water pump which would cost RM70,000.
“We will monitor the situation once the ad-hoc committee has been set up and list down all the problems that people here are facing ,” she said.
